I honestly don't know what drives some people to go over the ledge like this. Sure, I think about pulling a Peter Pan over the balcony at work at least twice a week but I've also learned to become relatively detached when things blow up in my face.

Stumbling on CNN this afternoon I ran across a story of 4 girls that got together to form a Led Zeppelin cover band...Lez Zeppelin. With a name like Lez I'd think lesbian but these gals haven't 'come out' so to speak. Read about it here...

This cat is playing at J.J.'s Blues Bar, Roadhouse, whatever you call it this Friday in Fort Worth. I'm sure a sister of a friend will be there as well getting her jiggy on...I'll have to get my adult beverage on pre-show.

I've always been a sucker for the girl with glasses, perhaps not much more than for Lisa Loeb, who supposedly is looking for a husband on some E! show. She might be a one-hit-wonder (i.e. 'Stay', why do I know that?), but I would have to one-hit...oh, nevermind.

Queen for a Day - The Wreck Room on 7th Street in Fort Worth. I've never seen these guys but I've heard their lead singer sounds pretty damn close to Freddie Mercury.

Petty Theft (Tom Petty cover-band) - The Moon Bar on Berry St. in Fort Worth. Kick it with Rhynes from The Ticket. I'd advise you to get there early, the place tends to get crowded.



Saturday: Ah yes, the power of Goodwin at The Wreck Room.

When you get to be somewhat of an old-fogey like me you're supposed to know better than place the 'drunk-dial'; calling someone from your cellphone when you're in no condition to be talking. It's more like a babble that takes place, funny when both people on the line are hammered, not so funny finding out the next day that you called someone way past the time that is prudent.

That's why I don't do that. I do something much better, I 'drunk-text'.

I'm a big fan of the 'drunk-text'. There are so many possible ways to get out of awkward scenarios the next day it's not even funny. 'That was an old message, accidentally sent' or 'I didn't mean to send that to you' or 'that was forwarded to me, I forwarded it to the wrong person'. Pure gold. It is the George Costanza of the electronic world: as a result you may have to become a better liar, but the messages you leave (especially to females late at night, hint hint), can be profound.

Bitter Pill

Congrats Texas, you pulled off a game I thought you didn't have a chance to win. USC got ripped by a few calls and Pete Carroll made some bad decisions but no one can take this game away from you. No doubt this puts even more pressure on Coach Fran in Aggieland to produce or get out. I gave Fran when he was hired until the 2006 season to produce results and they better get at least 9 wins next season or bye bye.

Got to go hide under a rock for 6 months now until the '06 season begins...

Rose Bowl tonight - ABC, 7pm: Call me sorry but...

I want UT to get crushed. In case you didn't know, I'm an A&M fan. Those of you from around here know that UT (tu as Aggies call them) is A&M's most hated team (Texas Tech is a distant second). My hope tonight is that USC puts UT in their place and lays 50+ on them, but realistically I see the game being pretty close with both teams in the high 20, low 30 point range.

Call me bitter and/or 'anti-Texas' but how can you respect a school that refers to itself as 'The U' in Texas when A&M was founded before UT? Saw 'em off....short...A!

I'd love to read tomorrow in the papers that USC gave UT 'the shocker'...
